Career Change

1 Comment | This entry was posted on Jan 24 2009

This recession, my company’s slow start, and my piling bills have all made me ponder on life a bit. Praying to the Lord, asking Him for wisdom, is all I can do. I know that I need to find a steady career in order to support my family in these trying economic times… but what? My wife suggested that I look into a trade of some sort. I researched many of the trades and really kept an open mind to anything.

I have been considering an array of different trades including Steamfitting/Pipefitting, Plumbing, Ironworking, Electrician, and many more. While I have no experience working in these trades I do have a strong desire to specialize in something where I can work with my hands. I am a 30 year old with a wife and 3 kids… time is long overdue to find something stable.

I have also considered what my brother-in-law does. He is a power lineman at the local utility company. A friend and I visited him the other day and picked his brain about the job details and about the long Apprenticeship that a lineman does before becoming a Journeyman. The job itself seems very challenging… and even a bit intimidating. But I was intrigued nevertheless. So I have prayed and have decided to give it a try. If its the Lord’s will then I shall succeed. If it’s not, then He has something else for me to do.

I will blog more in the coming weeks about my process in getting an apprenticeship (or whatever else the Lord may want me to do).

Well we won 4 games this year… one left to go. Hawk fans are already talking about next season. Hopefully a full overhaul will be done including a restructuring of the secondary and maybe some O-line help. I am a bit concerned about the new coach next year. Mora didnt fare so well in Atlanta so what makes the Seattle brass think he will do any better here? I think we need to get a coach and a defensive coordinator that will take our sorry D to the next level. How bout the Chin (Bill Cowher)? He’s got my vote. COWHER 2009!

Great Slideshow of yestersday game. http://www.thenewstribune.com/942/story/574735.html

New Family Site

Honeycutts.net is my new family site I launched today. I used to blog family stuff on my old blog honeycuttfam.com. I decided to get a new domain, mod a new theme, and export/import the honeycuttfam.com database. Wordpress makes it incredibly easy to import a database file into a new install. They even make it easy to move all your posts from Blogger and other free blooging websites to your own server. Nice.

Seahawks lose again

Overall it was a great game… they just didn’t have enough in the tank defensively at the end.  Their Offensive line woes are limiting their effectivness to score when it counts.  Some of the bright spots of the game was the play of Deion Branch, Jon Carlson, and CJ Wallace.

Here is a cool photo slideshow of the game.
