Career Change
This recession, my company’s slow start, and my piling bills have all made me ponder on life a bit. Praying to the Lord, asking Him for wisdom, is all I can do. I know that I need to find a steady career in order to support my family in these trying economic times… but what? My wife suggested that I look into a trade of some sort. I researched many of the trades and really kept an open mind to anything.
I have been considering an array of different trades including Steamfitting/Pipefitting, Plumbing, Ironworking, Electrician, and many more. While I have no experience working in these trades I do have a strong desire to specialize in something where I can work with my hands. I am a 30 year old with a wife and 3 kids… time is long overdue to find something stable.
I have also considered what my brother-in-law does. He is a power lineman at the local utility company. A friend and I visited him the other day and picked his brain about the job details and about the long Apprenticeship that a lineman does before becoming a Journeyman. The job itself seems very challenging… and even a bit intimidating. But I was intrigued nevertheless. So I have prayed and have decided to give it a try. If its the Lord’s will then I shall succeed. If it’s not, then He has something else for me to do.
I will blog more in the coming weeks about my process in getting an apprenticeship (or whatever else the Lord may want me to do).
